Traditional Stone Workshop 2016

Experiential learning in traditional stone construction
Place & Time: Lefkada, West Coast Greece, 20-27 August

The renowned stone master-builder Mastro Manolis from Heraklion Crete, the environmental artist, naturalist & founder of Eco-Art, Stamatina Palmou and Art therapist Dafni Kalafati from Amaka NGO, join forces in a unique stone construction workshop, applied to the natural landscape. Within a week the participants will have the opportunity to learn through practice the basic ways of working with stone, how to prepare the joints and what tools to use, aiming at enabling them to finish what they have started or to begin their own constructions after the seminar has ended, with guaranteed success!

The workshop will be carried out on a private estate in the small village of Katouna, seven kilometers from the capital of Lefkada. In the property we will build together single-face stone walls, terraces, traditional retaining walls, benches and a traditional oven. Along with the practical and theoretical advice of Mastro Manolis on various topics, such as foundation, plastering etc., Stamatina will introduce us to the magical world of sustainable development and teach us how to recognise the properties of each type of terrain / region we want to work on, in order to get the best results.

In this holistic approach Dafni’s contribution can’t be missed, where through her experiences with people and nature she will be conveying to participants the principles of eco-art therapy, i.e. how to use the natural elements as a means of self expression and therapy. So, if you have an appetite for getting in touch with nature and its elements, for experiencing the exotic beaches of Lefkada and for some…lifting, do not hesitate!
